Hops for brewing
At Brewshop, we have a large selection of hops for brewing beer, including traditional hop varieties such as Saaz, Mittelfruh, Citra, and Mosaic, as well as more exotic types. In addition to classic T-90 hop pellets, we offer Cryo Hops hop pellets and HopBurst hop extract.
We take great pride in being one of Norway's leading suppliers of brewing equipment and raw materials for beer, catering to both homebrewers and microbreweries. As fellow brewers, we know that quality is crucial at every stage of the process. Good beer comes from good ingredients, which is why we are meticulous when selecting the hops we stock for brewing. All hops are vacuum-sealed and stored in a freezer room at -17°C, and are, of course, labeled with their vintage and alpha acid content.
Hop pellets normally have a shelf life of 5 years from the production date. For example, hops harvested in 2021 usually have a production date of 2022 and a shelf life until 2027.
Hop pellets vs. hop extract
The role of hops is to contribute bitterness and aroma to beer. Hop pellets are simply hop cones that have been ground into powder and then pressed back together. Hop extract, on the other hand, is made by extracting hops using CO2.
Compared to hop pellets, hop extract is very stable and concentrated. This makes it a practical alternative that is easy to handle and dose, and it results in significantly less residual material and therefore a higher yield. Nevertheless, some beer enthusiasts believe they can taste a difference in beer brewed with different forms of hops, and in such cases, hop pellets often come out on top.
When choosing hops for beer, it's all about experimenting to find the method that suits you best and the flavor you desire.
