Description

Tettnanger Hop Pellets

Tettnanger is a traditional German noble hop from the Saaz group, grown around Tettnang on Lake Constance. It has low bitterness and a subtle, spicy and herbal aroma. BarthHaas also describes woody notes, cream and caramel, almond and hints of blueberry. Tettnanger is mainly used as an aroma hop in pale beers. The 100 g pack is suited to homebrewers.

Frequently asked questions about Tettnanger

Which beer styles suit Tettnanger?

Tettnanger suits pale beers such as pilsner, helles, kölsch and wheat beer, and is often combined with Hallertau Mittelfrüh, Spalt and Saaz.

What can I use instead of Tettnanger?

Spalt and Saaz are alternative hops with a related profile.

How high is the alpha acid in Tettnanger?

BarthHaas gives a typical range of 1.9–5.5% for the variety. Alpha acid varies from year to year. The alpha acid for the lot you receive is stated in the product title. Use that figure when calculating bitterness.

How should I store the hops?

Store the hops cold, dark and airtight, preferably in a freezer. We keep our hops vacuum-packed in a freezer room at −18 °C, and the quality holds for several years. We prioritise hops from the two most recent harvests, but older hops can be just as good if stored correctly. Read more in the article on hop shelf life and storage from Yakima Valley Hops (PDF).
