Description

Corneliusfat 23L – AEB (R Jolly Keg)

The 23L Cornelius keg from AEB is a ball lock keg in stainless steel that holds a full batch of 23 litres of fermented beer. The keg is made by AEB in Italy, and Brewshop is the Norwegian distributor. Even at 23 litres, there is still plenty of headroom in ordinary kegerators. No more bottling the last 2–3 litres.

Kegs instead of bottles

Bottling is a tedious process of washing and filling, and carbonation often ends up uneven. With a keg, you clean one Cornelius keg instead of 40–50 bottles, and it is easy to hit the right carbonation every time. If the carbonation is off, you release some CO2 or raise the pressure. The Cornelius keg can be filled straight from the fermenter without racking first. Use a Bouncer Filter on the hose to keep sediment out of the keg. The keg is also easy to clean, especially with a Keg Washer that does the job for you.

Important about spare parts

The 23L keg uses its own posts, dip tubes and O-rings. You cannot use spare parts for 9–20 litre Cornelius kegs, except for the lid, which is the same.

Technical data

  • Volume: 23 litres
  • Connection: ball lock
  • Height: 67 cm
  • Diameter: 23 cm
  • Supplied complete with lid, stainless steel pressure relief valve, in and out posts, dip tube and gas tube
  • Pressure-tested to 130 PSI / 9.1 bar
  • Manufacturer: AEB, Italy

All AEB kegs are passivated to make the steel resistant to corrosion and chemicals, and they are inspected at every stage of production, cleaned and pressure-tested to 130 PSI / 9.1 bar. Each keg has a unique serial number and can be traced in detail through production.

Maintenance recommendations

Star San and similar acid-based sanitizers containing phosphoric acid can, over time, affect the steel if left in contact with it, even at low concentrations. The acid keeps etching the surface and weakens the passive layer that protects the steel. The solution can stay in the keg for a few hours, but after that you should rinse with clean water.

Frequently asked questions about the 23L Cornelius keg from AEB

How much beer does the 23L keg hold?

The keg holds 23 litres of fermented beer, which is what you normally have left from a 25-litre batch. Do not fill above the end of the gas tube, or beer can flow back into the regulator if the CO2 cylinder runs empty.

Can I use spare parts from a 19 or 20 litre keg?

Only the lid. Posts, dip tubes and O-rings are specific to the 23L keg, so parts for 9–20 litre Cornelius kegs will not fit.

How do I carbonate beer in the keg?

A simple method is to keep the keg cold, at 3–5 °C, and leave CO2 connected at 1 bar for about a week. The beer cannot become more carbonated than the pressure allows, so this method is safe for beginners.

Can I leave Star San in the keg?

Only for a few hours. Acid-based products with phosphoric acid can etch the steel and weaken the passive layer over time, so rinse the keg with clean water afterwards.
