Description

20L Cornelius keg from AEB

The 20L Cornelius keg from AEB is a stainless steel ball lock keg with one litre more capacity than a standard 19-litre (5 gallon) keg. It therefore suits European batch sizes better, and there is still plenty of headroom in ordinary kegerators. The 20L keg was developed specifically for Brewshop, and Brewshop is the Norwegian distributor for AEB in Italy.

Why choose Cornelius kegs from AEB?

For more than 30 years, AEB has made Cornelius kegs in Italy for companies including Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

All AEB kegs are passivated to make the steel resistant to corrosion and chemicals, and they are inspected at every stage of production, cleaned and pressure-tested to 130 PSI / 9.1 bar. Each keg has a unique serial number and can be traced in detail through production.

AEB kegs have more rubber on both the top and the bottom, which protects the steel better if dropped than kegs with less rubber, for example from Kegland. The diameter is 219 mm (± 2 mm) including the extra layer of rubber.

Kegs make the job easier

Bottling is a tedious process of washing and filling, and carbonation often ends up uneven. With a keg, you clean one Cornelius keg instead of many bottles, and it is easy to hit the right carbonation every time. If the carbonation is off, you adjust it by lowering or raising the pressure. The Cornelius keg can be filled straight from the fermenter without racking first. Use a Bouncer Filter on the hose to keep sediment out of the keg. The keg is also easy to clean, especially with a Keg Washer that does the job for you.

Maintenance recommendations

Star San and similar acid-based sanitizers containing phosphoric acid can, over time, affect the steel if left in contact with it, even at low concentrations. The acid keeps etching the surface and weakens the passive layer that protects the steel. The solution can stay in the keg for a few hours, but after that you should rinse with clean water.

Frequently asked questions about the 20L Cornelius keg from AEB

What is the difference between a 19L and a 20L keg?

A standard Cornelius keg holds 5 gallons, about 19 litres. The 20L AEB keg holds one litre more and suits European batch sizes better, while still fitting in ordinary kegerators.

How full can I fill the keg?

Do not fill above the end of the gas tube. Otherwise beer can flow back into the regulator if the CO2 cylinder runs empty.

How do I carbonate beer in the keg?

A simple method is to keep the keg cold, at 3–5 °C, and leave CO2 connected at 1 bar for about a week. The beer cannot become more carbonated than the pressure allows, so this method is safe for beginners.

Can I leave Star San in the keg?

Only for a few hours. Acid-based products with phosphoric acid can etch the steel and weaken the passive layer over time, so rinse the keg with clean water afterwards.
