Description
Chubby Apollo 30L – pressure fermenter and keg from Keg King
The Chubby Apollo is a 30 litre PET pressure fermenter from Keg King, developed from the earlier Chubby fermenter. It works both as a fermenter and as a keg with ball lock posts, so you can ferment, carbonate and serve from the same vessel. It takes a 23–25 litre batch.
The Chubby Apollo is designed for pressure fermentation, but can also be used as a regular fermenter with an airlock or blow-off tube. It is made in Springvale, Australia, and every tank is individually pressure tested.
Features
- Combined pressure fermenter and keg with stainless steel ball lock gas and liquid posts
- Wide 115 mm lid opening with room for your hand when cleaning
- Reinforced construction with built-in handles
- Silicone dip tube with float ball and stainless steel filter, so you draw clear beer from the top
- Centre port with hexagonal cap. The lid has ½" BSP threads for accessories such as a thermowell or CIP equipment
- 25 psi pressure relief valve (PRV) included

- Height: 602 mm to the top of the lid valves
- Diameter: 300 mm
- Maximum pressure: 2.4 bar (35 psi) according to the user manual
- Temperature: not above 50 °C
- Materials: food-grade PET, plastic lid and neck, silicone seals and 304 stainless steel ball lock posts
Important about use and cleaning
The tank must not be exposed to liquid above 50 °C, as PET can soften and deform. Chill the wort below 30 °C before filling. Use a soft sponge and non-caustic cleaners, never caustic soda, strong acids or steel wool. Never connect the tank to an unregulated pressure source.
Frequently asked questions about the Chubby Apollo 30L
How much can I ferment in the Chubby Apollo?
The tank holds 30 litres and is designed for 23–25 litre batches, leaving plenty of headspace for krausen.
What pressure can the tank handle?
According to Keg King's user manual, never apply more than 2.4 bar (35 psi) to the tank. It comes with a 25 psi pressure relief valve. A typical pressure for pressure fermentation is 0.7–1 bar.
What do I need to ferment under pressure?
You need a spunding valve, such as the Keg King Spundy, which attaches to the gas post and regulates the pressure in the tank. For carbonating and serving, you need CO2 with a regulator.
Can I use the Chubby Apollo as a regular fermenter?
Yes. With an airlock or blow-off tube, it can be used as a regular fermenter without pressure.
Can the tank handle hot water?
No. The tank must not be exposed to liquid above 50 °C. Clean it with lukewarm water and non-caustic cleaners.
