Description

Ægir Ratatosk – all-grain beer kit for a Double IPA

Together with Ægir Bryggeri in Flåm we have created an all-grain kit for homebrewers who want to brew the Double IPA Ratatosk. No expense has been spared on malt or tropical hops, with around 300 g of hops in the kit. Ratatosk is a powerful, hop-forward Double IPA with a deep golden-brown colour, well balanced between malt sweetness and the fruit and bitterness of the hops.

Because the malt bill is so large, the recipe has been scaled down from the usual 28–29 litres to 26 litres. This lets you brew it on a Grainfather and similar systems without a double mash.

Contents and technical data

  • Contents: malted grain (8.94 kg), hops, yeast and brewing instructions
  • Yields approx. 19 litres (26 litres pre-boil, approx. 23 litres into the fermenter)
  • OG: 1.098
  • FG: 1.031
  • EBC: 20.6
  • IBU: 60
  • ABV: 9%
  • Fermentation: 10–14 days at 21 °C
  • Yeast: 2 × US-05 dry yeast

Sugar for carbonation, fining agents and any yeast nutrient are not included.

For quality and shelf life, the malt is supplied unmilled. If you do not already have a grain mill, we recommend getting one so you have completely fresh ingredients on brew day. Freshly milled malt gives the best result.

Frequently asked questions about the Ægir Ratatosk all-grain kit

Can I brew Ratatosk on a Grainfather without a double mash?

Yes. The recipe has been scaled to 26 litres pre-boil precisely so it can be brewed on a Grainfather and similar systems without a double mash.

How much beer does it make?

The kit yields approx. 19 litres of finished beer. You have 26 litres pre-boil and approx. 23 litres of wort for fermentation.

Which yeast is included, and how should it be fermented?

The kit contains two sachets of US-05 dry yeast. Ferment for 10–14 days at 21 °C.

What else do I need?

Sugar for carbonation, and optionally a fining agent and yeast nutrient. For a beer this strong, yeast nutrient can be a good choice.

Can I get the malt milled?

The malt is stored unmilled. If you do not have your own grain mill, you can choose milled malt when ordering. We then mill it just before shipping.
