Description
10psi Blue PRV (0.7 bar) – simple pressure fermentation without a spunding valve
The blue pressure relief valve from Keg King holds 10 psi (0.7 bar) and is an affordable alternative to a spunding valve when you want to ferment under pressure. It can be used on Apollo, Fermenter King and other pressure fermenters with a replaceable relief valve, and is also compatible with cornelius kegs.
The valve lifts when the pressure exceeds 10 psi (0.7 bar) and closes again when it drops below. Please note that you will hear a hissing sound during fermentation when using these valves.
Technical data
- Opening pressure: 10 psi (0.7 bar)

Frequently asked questions about the 10psi Blue PRV
What is the difference between a PRV and a spunding valve?
This PRV has a fixed opening pressure of 0.7 bar. A spunding valve is adjustable and often has a gauge, so you can set and read the pressure.
Why does the valve hiss?
During fermentation the yeast produces CO2, and the valve releases the excess once the pressure passes 0.7 bar. The hissing sound is normal.
What pressure is common for pressure fermentation?
Brewshop's article on pressure fermentation gives 0.7–1 bar as common. It also recommends fermenting the first couple of days without pressure.
Are PRVs available with other pressures?
Yes, Keg King also has a purple 15 psi (1 bar) valve and a red 35 psi (2.4 bar) valve.
