Description
ZChiller counterflow chiller – fast wort chilling from 20 to over 100 litres
ZChiller (Large) is a copper counterflow wort chiller from ZChillers/Packless Industries in the USA. It is flexible for both small and large batches (20–100+ litres) and suits homebrewers and small breweries who want to chill their wort quickly after the boil. Exclusive to Brewshop in Norway.
Spiral Star Design
Inside, the copper tube uses a «Spiral Star Design». This increases the copper surface in contact with the wort and creates more turbulence. More movement over a larger area means the wort cools considerably faster than in conventional counterflow chillers. Chilling 200 litres takes approx. 20 minutes.
The manufacturer states that ZChiller chills as effectively as a plate chiller, without the problem of clogging, and that it is much easier to clean.
Benefits of fast chilling
- reduced chilling time
- more efficient cold break, removing unwanted proteins and particles from the beer
- less trub in the fermenter
- reduced DMS formation and a cleaner aroma
- shorter time where the wort is exposed to infection
Technical data
- connection: welded-on 1/2" NPT fittings for mounting hose barbs
- dimensions: 23 cm diameter × 13 cm
- copper tube length: 3.9 m
- weight: 4.8 kg
Note: the ZChiller in the pictures is polished, but it is delivered unpolished.
Cleaning
Run PBW through the inner tube and rinse with hot water. Before use, recirculate boiling wort through the chiller for a few minutes to sterilise it inside.
Frequently asked questions about the ZChiller counterflow chiller
What batch sizes is ZChiller suitable for?
It suits batches from approx. 20 litres up to over 100 litres. Chilling 200 litres takes approx. 20 minutes.
How do I connect hoses?
The chiller has welded-on 1/2" NPT fittings where you mount hose barbs for wort and cooling water.
Why is fast chilling important?
Fast chilling gives a good cold break and prevents DMS from forming again after the boil. DMS tastes of canned sweetcorn or cooked cabbage.
How do I clean the chiller?
Run PBW through the inner tube and rinse with hot water. Before the next brew, recirculate boiling wort through the chiller for a few minutes.
