HopDrop Kit 3" from Brewtools – dry hopping under pressure without oxygen

The HopDrop Kit from Brewtools contains the parts you need to dry hop and add other ingredients to a fermenter under pressure, without letting oxygen into the tank. When beer ferments under pressure, you cannot simply open the lid to add hops. With the HopDrop you put the hops in the tube above the closed valve and open the valve down to the tank.

The kit is built around a 3" butterfly valve and a 3" Tri-Clamp tube, with 34 mm Tri-Clamp parts for gas and pressure relief on top.

What is the HopDrop Kit used for?

Why can I not just open the lid?

Opening a tank under pressure lets CO2 out and oxygen in. Oxygen after fermentation gives oxidised beer that loses its hop aroma.

How does the kit connect to the tank?

The kit has a 3" butterfly valve and connects to the tank with a 3" Tri-Clamp. Clamps and gaskets are included.
