Description

Fercubator (Ferminator) Basic – fermentation chamber with cooling and heating

The Fercubator, formerly known as the Ferminator, from Brewolution in Denmark is an affordable and smart fermentation chamber that keeps fermentation at a precise and stable temperature. That is essential for a good result when you brew beer. At room temperature (20 °C), the Fercubator can lower the temperature towards 0 °C and raise it to 50 °C*. You can, for example, ferment lagers at the correct low temperature, or ales with plenty of desirable esters at a high fermentation temperature.

The Fercubator keeps the temperature constant throughout fermentation, and you can adjust it whenever you like. A correct and even fermentation temperature prevents off-flavours and keeps the yeast from going dormant. The chamber can also be used for cold crashing to clear the beer after fermentation.

The included Fercubator Basic cooling/heating unit has a built-in WiFi module, which is planned to become unlockable for a fee at Brewolution.com.

Easy to use

The control panel is easy to read and simple to operate with a few buttons. Set and current temperature are always shown on the display, so it is easy to follow progress. The temperature can be adjusted at any time.

Cooling/heating unit

  • can lower the temperature by up to 20 °C relative to ambient*
  • can raise the temperature by up to 30 °C relative to ambient*
  • built-in fan circulates the air for an even temperature throughout the chamber
  • the controller is easy to programme and shows actual and set temperature
  • temperature sensor with 2 metre cable
  • the sensor can be mounted on the outside of the fermenter or in a thermowell, which measures the exact temperature of the contents
  • max consumption 75 W, standby 1 W
  • the fan runs constantly, but at four different speeds as needed. Noise level 43–51 dB.

Extension module

The extension module is 22 cm high. The Fercubator can be extended with more extension modules and an extra cooling/heating unit on the back. The modules and the chamber can be separated, so it takes up minimal space in storage.

Frequently asked questions about the Fercubator (Ferminator) Basic

Are the Fercubator and the Ferminator the same thing?

Yes. Fercubator is the new name for Brewolution's Ferminator.

How cold can the Fercubator Basic keep the beer?

The unit can lower the temperature by up to 20 °C relative to the room. With a 20 °C room that means down towards 0 °C, which is enough for both lager fermentation and cold crashing.

Which fermenters fit inside?

The Basic takes, among others, a 33L fermenter and a 30L FermZilla Flat Bottom. With extension modules you can fit taller tanks such as the Apollo Snub Nose, Fermenter King Unitank and several Cornelius kegs.

Where should the temperature sensor go?

The sensor can be attached to the outside of the tank, but in a thermowell it measures the temperature of the beer itself. The cable is 2 metres long.

Why is temperature control so important?

The yeast generates heat during peak fermentation, and room temperature varies through the day. Too high a temperature gives fusel alcohols and too many esters, too low gives sluggish or incomplete fermentation. Read more in the article on temperature control.
