Frequently asked questions about the Blue Velvet of Chimay all-grain kit
What kind of beer is Blue Velvet of Chimay?
A Belgian strong ale inspired by Chimay Bleue, with a powerful aroma and complex flavour. It has an OG of 1.087 and finishes at approx. 9.3% ABV.
How long should the beer ferment?
The recipe calls for 21 days at 18–22 °C. A strong beer needs time, and the yeast cleans up its own off-flavours if left long enough.
Will 7.8 kg of malt fit in my brewing system?
That depends on the system. If the malt pipe holds less than the kit requires, you can double mash: mash half, empty the pipe and mash the rest in the wort from the first round.
Why is the malt uncrushed?
Once crushed, malt starts to oxidise and lose flavour and aroma. Brewshop therefore stores malt uncrushed and only crushes it when you choose crushed malt at checkout. With your own grain mill you crush the malt just before brewing.
