Hoses for homebrewing – silicone, PVC and beer line for beer and CO2

How to choose the right hose
Temperature:silicone hose handles −60 to +200 °C and is the hose for hot wort. PVC hose handles up to 60 °C, reinforced PVC −20 to +55 °C and LDPE a maximum of 60 °C.
Connection: LDPE and LLDPE tubing is sized by outer diameter (4 mm, 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 10 mm and 1/2") and fits John Guest and DMfit push-fit fittings. Silicone and PVC are sized by inner diameter and fitted on hose barbs with clamps.
Draught systems:Python lines from 2+2 to 8+2 combine 3/8" beer lines and 1/2" coolant lines in one insulated bundle to the tap tower. Insulating rubber hose comes in several sizes.
Breweries: Brewflex beer hose with 1.5" Tri-Clamp ends, rated to 16 bar, comes in 2.5, 5 and 10 metres and in custom configurations to order.

Most hoses are sold by the metre. Cut the tubing square with the John Guest Tube-Cutter or a hose cutter so the push-fit fitting seals properly.

Which hose can handle hot wort?
Silicone hose handles −60 to +200 °C and is used for hot wort, hot water and between kettle, pump and chiller. PVC and LDPE hoses only handle up to around 60 °C.
Which tubing fits John Guest fittings?
Push-fit fittings such as John Guest and DMfit use LDPE or LLDPE tubing with an outer diameter matching the fitting, for example 3/8" or 5/16". The tubing must be cut square.
Which hose should I use for CO2?
For CO2, use reinforced PVC pressure hose with barbs and clamps, or LDPE tubing with push-fit fittings. Check that the hose's working pressure suits the pressure you use.
What is a Python line?
A Python line bundles several beer lines and coolant lines in one insulated line, keeping the beer cold all the way to the tap tower. The numbers in the name, such as 4+2, show the number of beer lines and coolant lines.
